Gabrielle has been teaching yoga since 2002 and her greatest passion is sharing the joy and benefits of yoga with others. The yoga she teaches is of a creative nature, using themes and imagery with smooth transitions between postures. It is a style that is gentle and nurturing, with options and modifications of postures so everyone can participate. Bhava yoga is inclusive, not exclusive; you are encouraged to move your body in a way that is ALWAYS pain free and in a comfortable range of movement. Bhava yoga is a moving meditation (many students practice much of the class with their eyes closed), where your body, breath and awareness are moving as one – this is union, this is yoga. Gabrielle loves to weave all aspects of her training into a practice, so the experience is an immersive and embodied one. This session will offer a breath concentred practice including the exploration and brief discussion on;
Controlled breathing vs. natural breath
The essential qualities of pranayama - ujjayi breath (when to use and benefits)
Breathing to calm mind and stabilise the body in motion
This Masterclass will also discuss and explore the following concepts – Is there a right way of breathing? What is diaphragmatic breathing? Breathing to uplift, calm and balance. Some 'body sensing' will also be incorporated into the practice. When we bring attention to the sensations in the body (especially after movement), we get out of our head and into the body. We cannot think and feel at the same time. This brings a deeper meditative, introspective and embodied experience to the participants.
Yoga has been Gabrielle’s rock; through the illness and death of her father, navigating teenage boys and the emotional roller coaster of her menopause at 43. Yoga is Gabrielle’s constant companion, her source of strength, her voice of inner wisdom and guidance. Through practice she finds clarity, stillness, patience and peace.
